In 1939, at the age of 20, Alexander was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army. He was enlisted in the 7th Cavalry Regiment, which was stationed near the city of Irkutsk. The news of the beginning of the war caught him there. In 1941, he was transferred as part of the regiment to Moscow. His unit was transformed into a motorized rifle regiment of the 5th Army. The soldier was sent to a separate communications company, where he studied for a radio operator for several months. Alexander Petrovich took part in the radio operator defense of Moscow, in the offensive of the Red Army in the western direction. At the same time, the radio operators overcame most of the movements through life-threatening territory. Once Alexander Petrovich also got into the shelling zone.
