Arkino HISTORY: Grigory Artemchenkov was born on April 25, 1923 in the village of Arkino (currently - Komarichsky district of the Bryansk region) into a working class family. Received an incomplete secondary education. In 1941 he was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army by the Komarichsky District Military Commissariat. In 1942, Grigory Fedorovich graduated from the military aviation school of pilots in Stalingrad, received the rank of sergeant. Was sent to the 814th Fighter Aviation Regiment. Initially, he flew the British Hurricane fighters, and from October 1942 - the Yak-1. He took part in battles on the Southwest, 1st and 3rd Ukrainian fronts. He took part in the Stalingrad and Kursk battles, Voroshilovgrad, Izyum-Barvenkovskaya, Donbass operations, the battle for the Dnieper, Lvov-Sandomierz, Sandomierz-Silesian, Lower Silesian, Upper Silesian operations. Since July 1944, Grigory Fedorovich performed combat missions as part of a reconnaissance squadron, was subordinate directly to the command of the 2nd Guards Assault Air Corps. By February 20, 1945, he flew 340 sorties (of which 125 reconnaissance, 121 covering, 89 escorts, 5 assault). In 46 air battles he personally shot down 5 aircraft, in group 1, damaged 2 aircraft. During the attack, he destroyed 10 cars, 15 carts, 3 railway cars, 1 steam locomotive, 5 air defense points, blew up 2 ammunition depots, destroyed about 35 enemy soldiers and officers. By the spring of 1945, Guards Lieutenant Grigory Artemchenkov was the flight commander of the 106th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 11th Guards Aviation Division of the 2nd Guards Attack Air Corps of the 2nd Air Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front. On April 4, 1945, he was wounded in an air accident and lost his leg. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of 06/27/1945 For courage and personal heroism shown during the performance of combat missions, for 125 successful combat missions for reconnaissance and downed 5 enemy aircraft, the guard Lieutenant Grigory Artemchenkov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and medals "Gold Star". After the end of the war, he continued to serve in the Soviet Army, was a squadron adjutant in the ground service of the 106th Guards Fighter Regiment. In 1948, he retired with the rank of senior lieutenant.
