Lugovtsov Nikolay Semenovich
DATE OF BIRTH: 05.03.1907 DATE OF DEATH: - HISTORY: My grandfather, Nikolai Lugovtsov, started the war early in the morning on June 22, 1941 as a young officer. If it was not for the commander of the air forces of the Odessa district, contrary to the order not to succumb to provocations, did not raise, risking his head, in alarm his subordinate units, then it is completely unknown whether the first day of the war would be the last for grandfather. And so he fought happily ever after, got out of the encirclement near Kiev (by the way, more of ours got there than the Germans at Stalingrad), received the first Order of the Red Star in December 1941 (during the period when they were shot much more than they were awarded). Judging by the data of the then front-line press, he hijacked our plane under the fire of Nazi soldiers, which had made an emergency landing on a no-man's land shortly before. Now his numerous orders and medals have been inherited by me. Among others there are medals "For the capture of Berlin" (Berlin surrendered on May 2, 1945), "For the liberation of Prague" (May 9). How did I guess to ask my elderly grandfather where he celebrated Victory Day? "In Vienna, I slept in a drained fountain in the square in front of the Vienna City Hall." After the war, grandfather's regiment was transferred to Bulgaria. The officers were allowed to discharge the family from the evacuation. This is how my mother finished 10th grade in Sofia. After leaving school, she had no choice but to try her luck at the university center closest to Bulgaria. In 1947, she entered the Odessa Medical Institute and witnessed the events, quite truthfully, in her opinion, shown in the film "Liquidation".
