Azirashvili Sergo Nikolaevich

DATE OF BIRTH: 01/23/1925 DATE OF DEATH: 01/09/2017 HISTORY: WWII veteran Azirashvili Sergo, despite his advanced age, was a very athletic person with an active lifestyle. I met him in 2016, when our organization, the Anti-Fascist Coalition of Multinational Georgia, of which I am president, was giving gifts to veterans of the Great Patriotic War. He immediately offered his help in any business, as he really liked the activities of our organization. After that, our paths crossed repeatedly and each time he offered his help. On June 19, 2016, our organization sent WWII veterans to the resort of Tskaltubo (Georgia) for health rehabilitation. Azirashvili Sergo went with his neighbor, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, 93-year-old Mariam Arzumanova. The veteran benefited from the rest at the resort - his energy increased and his health improved. On January 7, 2017, within the framework of the annual action "Days of Mercy", which takes place from January 2 to January 14, 2017, our organization and the "National Congress of Slavic Peoples of Georgia", represented by the President of the Congress Lika Zakharova, invited the veterans of the Great Patriotic War and gave them gifts and medicines. Sergo Azirashvili was also present at this action. On that day, he was full of energy and was going to meet with representatives of the ruling party in the near future and make his proposals to improve the living standards of WWII veterans. He was full of emotions and ideas ... On January 10, the relatives of Azirashvili Sergo contacted us and said that our veteran on January 9, in the evening, went out for a walk and buy himself the necessary medicines. When crossing the road, he got into an accident - he was hit by a trailer. The trailer driver did not notice Sergo crossing the road and knocked him down at full speed. Our veteran did not die immediately. His physical condition gave him the strength to get into the ambulance himself, which took him to the nearest hospital. But the blow was so strong that our veteran died from a profuse internal hemorrhage, not having reached a few hundred meters to the hospital. This is how the life of one of the few remaining veterans of the Second World War ended (according to the information of the Department of Veterans) in Georgia ...
