Rank: Red Army soldier. Kraynev Nikolay Stepanovich was a rifleman of the 7th rifle company of the 3rd rifle battalion of the 667th rifle regiment of the 218th rifle division of the 6th army of the 1st Ukrainian front, a Red Army soldier. He was born in 1924 to a peasant family in Tikhomirovka farm, now Sovetsky district of the Stavropol territory. He was Russian. He graduated from 7th grade of Junior high school. Worked at a collective farm. In August 1942, he was conscripted to the Red Army by the Alexander RVC of the Stavropol territory. He was in the battles of the Great Patriotic War since October 1942. He fought on the 1st Ukrainian front. On December 17, 1944, the enemy, under the cover of heavy mortar and artillery fire, undertook reconnaissance of the fighting in the defense area of the 7th rifle company, intending to capture the unnamed height. During the battle, a group of up to 20 Hitlerites managed to break through to our trenches. Throwing combustible mixture and grenades into the trench, the Nazis tried to capture the machine guns and light machine guns with their units. During this battle, the rifleman of the 7th rifle company of the 3rd rifle battalion of the 667th rifle regiment, a Red army soldier N. S. Kraynev, realized that he could not cope with two Hitlerites. Not wanting to be captured by them, the brave shooter blew up the remaining anti-tank grenade, the explosion of which killed both Nazis and killing himself. He was buried in the village of Vinyary, 12 kilometers North of the city of Sandomir (Poland). By the Decree of the Presidium of the Upper Soviet of the USSR dated April 10, 1945 for exemplary performance of combat missions of the command at the front of the battle against German invaders and the displayed courage and heroism, the Red Army soldier Krainev Nikolai Stepanovich was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. Awarded the Order of Lenin (10.01.1945), the medal " For Courage "(23.10.1994).
