Rank: Junior Sergeant. Branch of service: army, air force (except marine aviation), Coast Guard, the troops of the NKVD, Border Troops. My grandfather, Mikhail Kalinin, volunteered for military service at the age of 17 in 1944. During the distribution, he was sent to the troops of the Far East. During the Soviet-Japanese war, he took an active part in military operations. He served in the 1113th separate reconnaissance company from September 10, 1944 to September 03, 1945. After the end of the war and the declared victory over Japan, he remained in the army for another 5 years. Place of service-Khabarovsk territory, China. He was proud of being a scout, valued the scout badge. He told stories about how they had to get the "tongue". Recalling the time spent in China as part of the Soviet troops, he spoke warmly about the Chinese, told how they were friendly to the soldiers of the Red Army. My grandfather even learned to speak a little Chinese. The total length of service in the Armed Forces was 6 years and 4 months. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree( number of award document: 176, date of award document: 06.11.1985). After demobilization in 1950, my grandfather returned to Arkhangelsk region in the city of Nyandoma. He was accepted into the locomotive depot as a steam engine stoker. He worked at the Nyandom Locomotive Depot for 31 years, having worked his way up from a steam engine stoker to a locomotive driver. There he met his future wife, Kalinina Klavdia Ivanovna, with whom he lived in marriage for 53 years. They had three children and five grandchildren. After retirement, together with his wife, he moved to the city of Arkhangelsk, and there he worked for another 8 years as an Elevator operator. He died at the age of 77 in Arkhangelsk.
