Grigory Bakhtiyarov Rank: Lieutenant Colonel Branch of service: Artillery Grigory Bakhtiyarov was drafted into the Red Army by the Nalchik City Military Commissariat in 1935 and sent to a military school. He retired as a Lieutenant. He was again called up for service in the Red Army in March 1941. From June 22, 1941, he fought on the Southern Front, where he was wounded on January 10, 1942. After the hospital, he served on the Bryansk front and then on the Central Front, which in July 1943 took part in the battle of Kursk. He was the Chief of Staff of the 20th Separate Anti-tank Artillery Brigade of the Reserve Command in June-July 1944. Major Bakhtiyarov on the 1st Belorussian Front participated in the liberation of Belarus and the breakthrough through the city of Kovel on the polish territory, near Lublin. At the beginning of September 1944, Major Bakhtiyarov, as an officer of the 20th Separate Fighter-anti-tank Artillery Brigade, was fighting near Prague, a suburb of Warsaw, on the right Bank of the Vistula river. The brigade was sent to help the troops of the 65th Army, which had been holding a bridgehead on the right Bank of the Narev River since September 5. In early 1945, Lieutenant Colonel Bakhtiyarov of 20-th Separate Anti-tank Artillery Brigade of the Reserve Command was at the Puławy bridgehead on the Western Bank of the Vistula River, South of Warsaw. On January 14, during the Warsaw-Poznań operation, the brigade, along with other troops of the 1st Belorussian Front, launched an offensive to liberate Warsaw and break through to the Oder river. The combat career of the Deputy Commander of the artillery brigade Grigory Bakhtiyarov ended in May 1945 in Germany, near Berlin.
