Commanded: Chief of the Chief Directorate of State Security of the NKVD of the USSR (1938), People's Commissar of the USSR Interior Ministry (1938-1945), Member of the GKO (1941-1944). Awarded with a Personal weapon - the Browning pistol and a watch with a monogram.
Wife - Nina (Nino) Gegechkori (1905-1991). Son - Sergo (1924-2000). During the Great Patriotic War, from June 30, 1941, L. Beria was a member of the State Defense Committee (GKO). GKO decree of February 4, 1942 on the allocation of responsibilities among the members of GKO L. Beria was responsible for monitoring the implementation of the decisions of the GKO for the production of aircraft, engines, weapons and mortars, as well as for control over execution of decisions of the GKO on the work of the Red Army air force.
L. Beria was appointed a member of GKO Operational Bureau by the GKO resolution of December 8, 1942. By the same decree, L. Beria was additionally assigned the duties of monitoring and supervising the work of the people's Commissariat of the Coal Industry and the People's Commissariat of Railways.
Beria was appointed Deputy Chairman of the GKO and Chairman of the Operational Bureau in May 1944. The tasks of the Operational Bureau included, in particular, monitoring the work of all the people's commissariats of the defense industry, railway and water transport, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, coal, oil, chemical, rubber, paper and pulp, electrical industry, and power plants.
Beria also served as a permanent adviser to the Headquarters of the Main Command of the armed forces of the USSR. During the war, he carried out responsible assignments of the country's leadership and the ruling party, both related to the management of the national economy and at the front. Oversaw the production of aircraft and rocket technology.
