Afanasiy Batmanov

Branch of service: Artillery Batmanov Afanasy (1912-1982) was called up in August 1941 and immediately sent to the front, since before the war, he served three years in the Red Army and knew military Affairs well. His wife and two children stayed at home. He served in the artillery division. He fought for Stalingrad, Serafimovich, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Hungary. He crossed Austria on military roads. Afanasy keeps award lists from the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, from the Marshal of the Soviet Union. For the bravery shown in the battles for Krivoy Rog, for crossing the Dniester River in the vicinity of the Moldovan town of Bendery, for the capital of Hungary – Budapest, for the battle for the capital of Austria – Vienna, Batmanov Afanasy received a "Thank You" from Joseph Stalin. Was seriously wounded, but after recovering from his injury, he went back to the front and continued to fight. "Once the fascist scouts found out about the location of our division, it was necessary to quickly change the location and take the Nazis by surprise. Afanasy and another soldier volunteered to stay where they were and confuse their enemy. In an instant, his vision went dark and the ground disappeared from under his feet. He woke up in the white room of the hospital and asked the nurse: am I alive? He began to think about how he got here and realized that he had miraculously survived. His Victory in the war is visible on orders, medals and award lists, and the younger brothers of Afanasy also went through the roads of war. In a letter to Afanasy his brother Constantine wrote: "Our Vasya is fighting in Latvia, Alexander is liberating Germany from fascism, Misha is seriously wounded, his arm is amputated."
