Suetin Vasily Petrovich

Suetin Vasily Petrovich Branch of service: Land Forces, Air Forces (except for Marine Aviation), the coast guard, the troops of the NKVD, border troops. Division: 175th Rifle Ural-Kovel Red Banner division of the order of Kutuzov . On June 24, 1941, Vasily SUETIN was drafted into the Red Army and sent to serve in the 3rd Submachine gun company of the 3rd Battalion of the 1st Motorcycle Rifle Regiment of the Separate motorcycle rifle of the order of Lenin named after F. Dzerzhinsky (the special purpose division of the NKVD of the USSR). On June 26, 1941, he took the oath again. Until January 17, 1943, he served in the Separate Operational Purpose Division in Moscow. Barracks of the regiment were located in Protopopovsky side street, They protected state objects. On the 18th of January, 1943 Vasily Petrovich, as part of a team of 350 Red Army men and Junior commanders, was sent to Sverdlovsk, where the Ural Rifle Division of the Separate NKVD Army was being formed. In early February 1943, parts of the Ural Division of the NKVD (along with the rest of the divisions of the Separate Army of the NKVD) were transferred to Yelets, where they were announced to be transferred from the NKVD to the Red Army. The Revdinsky regiment became the 278th Revdinsky Rifle Regiment of the 175th Ural Rifle Division (3 formations). The Separate Army of the NKVD was transformed into the 70th Army and became a part of the Central Front. On the 9th of March 1943 at 02.00 fighters of the 278 th Revdinskiy Regiment without artillery preparation, without tank support and without any recon exploration of the area attacked heavily fortified positions of the 5th Rotorized Rergiment of the 12th Panzer Division pf the 9th Army of the Wehrmacht (Army group Centre) in Uspensky farm and the villge of May. They were waist-deep in snow under heavy rifle-machine-gun, mortar and artillery fire on the barbed wire of well-fortified strongpoints. The village was captured. The enemy actively counterattacked with the support of 6 tanks and heavy artillery fire. For 3 days of fighting, according to various sources, the loss of killed and wounded amounted to 35-40% of the personnel. Despite the heroism of soldiers, the combat task was not completed, and Uspensky farm was abandoned. In this battle, 20 officers, 44 sergeants and 94 Red Army men were killed. One officer, 23 Junior commanders and 109 Red Army men were missing. Casualties were 26 officers, 45 sergeants, and 245 Red Army men. Totaly 607 people. This is more than 25 % of the regiment's personnel who participated in the battle. I believe that my grandfather, Vasily Petrovich Suetin, a Red Amy soldier, also died in this battle, because my grandmother never received a single letter from him after February 1943. He loved her very much, and would have written to her from the front or from the hospital. Most likely the grandfather lost in the area of Uspensky farm, May village or the village of Svetly Luch, Oryol region, together with his friends from v: Senior Sergeant Yakov Tsvetkov, Junior Sergeant Vasily Kozlov, Red Army soldiers Alexey Buchin, Ulyanov Ivan Vladimirovich, Stepashkin Ivan Timofeevich, Zavyalov Trofim Pavlovich, Durandin Ivan Pavlovich, Dolotov Nikolai Vasilyevich and hundreds of other soldiers and commanders of the 278th Revdinsky Regiment. The enemy also suffered heavy losses in this battle: 144 soldiers and officers were killed, 176 were wounded, and two were captured. My mother has only one photo of her father and my grandfather Vasily. This photo was taken around 1935, when he was 28 years old. But for me my grandfather is still alive! As long as we remember him — he is with us!
