Kochetov Egor Yakovlevich

Kochetov Egor Yakovlevich was Born on 20.03.1914 in v. Prilepy, Solntsevsky district, Kursk region. He graduated from the 4th grade of education and joined Soviet Army. During his service he was trained as a cook. He worked in a metallurgical plant in Mariupol. During the Great Patriotic War he was not called to the front, but remained at the plant. When the front line approached the city in 1941, the evacuation of industrial plants and workers to the Urals and Siberia was organized. On the way there the train was bombarded with the evacuees, the surviving workers made their way to their troops. Egor Yakovlevich was taken by the Germans. He was tortured and beaten to admit that he was a partisan. But he had a pass for the factory, and he was sent to Germany, to the Buchenwald concentration camp. Egor Yakovlevich and his friend Nikolay tried to escape from the concentration camp, but they were captured. They were beaten, doused with water and beaten again. Half dead they were sent to the peat processing plant; there they were thrown into pits with water for peat extraction. If they did not meet the standard, they were left in the pit overnight. In spring 1945 Egor Yakovlevich and all the other prisoners were sent by the Germans in a column to be shot. When the troops from Anglo-American launched an offensive on Berlin, columns of prisoners for liberation were fired upon, Egor crawled into the bushes near the house, he was picked up by a German family and left behind. He remained with them until the liberation of German territory by Soviet troops. Then he was recruited into the regiment as a driver for the export of prisoners from Germany. He took part in the fights in Western Ukraine with the Bandera nationalists hidden in the woods, who in their cruelty were in no way inferior to the Nazis.
