Kostin Peter Andreevich

Pyotr Andreevich was born on June 20, 1925, in the village of Gubino in the Lebedyansky district. He was drafted into the army on January 10, 1943, when he was not yet 18 years old. Three days later he was on his way to the Far East. First he was sent to the training unit of junior commanders, where Pyotr Andreevich studied shooting from the Maxim machine gun and the skills of sapper business for three months. Then he was transferred to a cavalry regiment on the border near Lake Hunk. And when the young soldier showed good knowledge and skills, he was transferred to the Leningrad region as a machine-gunner of a regiment company. Here he received his baptism of fire. Kostin fought on the Leningrad and 4th Belarusian fronts and in 1945 was part of the 1st Ukrainian front. He liberated the Novgorod region and the city of Pskov from the Nazis and, under the command of Major General L. A. Govorov, took part in breaking the siege of Leningrad. With him he also liberated Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. In February 1944 he received a shrapnel wound in his hip and a bullet wound in his shoulder during the battle. He was treated in a hospital in Leningrad for five months. After his recovery he was sent as a pioneer to the 326th Separate Battalion. He fought under the command of Marshal I. S. Konev, liberated Poland, Hungary and Czechoslovakia. Without his participation the "meeting on Odra" was not complete. Pyotr Andreevich is a very strong and brave man, a brave warrior, and his numerous awards are a proof of it: Order of Glory III Grad, Order of the Patriotic War II Grad, Medal "for the victory over Germany", Medal "Zhukov", Medals for the liberation of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Hungary and Czechoslovakia. After the war, in 1947, Peter returned to his home village. For 30 years he worked on the state farm "Agronomist", rising to the rank of foreman of the tractor brigade. Then he managed a cattle farm.
