Umar Dmitrievich Kabolov was born in 1923 in Vladikavkaz as the son of a family of an officer of the tsarist army, Colonel Dmitry Kabolov, who was arrested in 1931 as an "enemy of the people" and banished to Siberia. Umar's mother, Elizaveta Alexandrovna Gutieva, was forced to leave her homeland and wander around the country as she could not withstand persecution by the local authorities. They settled in the town of Belev in the Tula region, where Umar was called to the front immediately after his graduation. In 1942 Umar Dmitrievich graduated from the Military Infantry School in Podolsk with the military rank of "lieutenant" and was appointed to the Military Council of the Volchov Front. There he was appointed commander of a machine gun platoon and sent to the advanced positions of our troops to defend Leningrad. In this area our troops fought bloody battles and were in the position of the army commander, General A. A. Vlasov, who abandoned his troops and voluntarily defected to the enemy, were in a difficult situation. Umar Dmitrievich Kabolov, a young lieutenant as commander of a machine gun platoon, took part in these battles. The family considered Umar missing for many years, as no news of his death had reached them. Finally, his niece recently received an archival certificate from the CGA of the Russian Ministry of Defense that Umar Dmitrievich Kabolov was killed in battle on September 8, 1942 while defending Leningrad. He is buried on the Sinyavinsky Heights, in the village of Gaitolovo, Kirovsky district, Leningrad region.
