In an offensive battle on the 3rd Belarusian front on 16.02.1945, while crossing the river Walsch near the town of Malzak in East Prussia, Senior Lieutenant Knysh, G. destroyed the fortress. F., who was in the front line of the regiment's infantry, destroyed 6 enemy fire points with direct cannon fire, smashed a transporter and destroyed more than 30 enemy soldiers, which enabled our rifle units to quickly cross the river and to attach themselves to the bridgehead to take the town of Malzak. When they advanced under heavy enemy fire and changed their firing position quickly and boldly, their guns took out 4 wagons of enemy soldiers. In the offensive battle of 17.03.1945 on the territory of the village of Grunau, he caused heavy cannon fire, which destroyed 3 enemy firing ranges, preventing our units from advancing. In this battle he was wounded. After the war he worked as a table tennis trainer in the main palace of the pioneers. He raised many sportsmen, including his son Knysh Yuri Georgievich, champion of Ulyanovsk region. He died in 1994. To this day the main sports complex hosts table tennis tournaments in memory of the legendary local coach George Knysh.
