Rank: Lieutenant. Military Branch: Ground Forces, Air Force (except naval aviation), coastal service, NKVD troops, border troops Subdivision: 29th Guards Rifle Elninskaya Red Banner Order of Suvorov Division Dmitry Stepanovich Korotin (on the right in the photo) was born in the Penza region of Gorodnishchensky district, the village of Yulovo, in 1913. He studied at the city school of the city of Gorodnishche. After graduation he entered a simple military school in the city of Penza, the present "Penza Artillery Engineering Institute. Chief Marshal the artillery N. N. Voronov" (moved from Tula to Penza in 1943), which specializes in training and retraining of the command staff for rocket and artillery troops. Dmitry Stepanovich was drafted to the front in 1942 in the ranks of Red Army, was a member of All-Russian Communist Party - a Bolshevik, commander of a rifle platoon. He commanded a rifle platoon of the 93rd Guards Regiment, the 29th Guards Elninskaya Red Banner Division, the 15th Guards Rifle Corps, the 10th Guards Army and the 2nd Baltic Front. On September 17, 1942, my great-grandfather achieved his first great deed: In the battles for the city of Karmanovo, Comrade Korotin overcame the stubborn enemy resistance with his platoon, was the first to break into the city and started street battles in which up to 40 Nazis were destroyed, while he himself was seriously wounded. On December 12, 1942, Dmitry Stepanovich performed his second feat: While fending off enemy counterattacks, the train from Comrade Korotin destroyed up to three dozen German soldiers. Wounded, he did not leave the battlefield until all enemy counterattacks had been fended off. He was wounded twice during the military operations. For these two heroic deeds Dmitry Stepanovich was awarded the Order of Red Star. During the war, especially before August 1944, this order was awarded very hard, and after the war all participants of the Great Patriotic War were honored. Dmitry Stepanovich Korotin , my great-grandfather, was killed during the offensive in battle and died in the arms of his friend on July 20, 1944.
