Gundarev Petr Stepanovich
From the autobiography “I was born on the 1st of July, 1923, in the village of Mon-Sungur in the Novospassky district of the Kuibyshev region (now Ulyanovsk). Father, Gundarev Stepan Grigoryevich, devoted his entire life to counting work. Mother, Sevastyanova Anastasia Ivanovna, is a housewife. I have a brother and a sister. I graduated from the seventh grade in 1940 and worked with my father at the accounting department. In 1941 on the 25th of June I went voluntarily to the military enlistment office and was sent to the Kuibyshev military infantry school where I studied until August 1941. In August after passing the military commission, I was enrolled in the military landing school where I studied until the 1st of November, 1941. On the 1st of November, 1941, by order, I was sent to the military camps of the city of Inza as commander of a tank destroyer squad. In early December of 1941 I was sent with a marching troop to the western front. Until the 12th of July, 1943, we were on the defensive near the city of Oryol and fought local battles. I served as commander of the intelligence department of the regimental battery of the 1018th rifle regiment of the 269th rifle division of the western front. On the 12th of July, 1943, we went on the offensive. On the 24th of July, 1943, near the city of Orsk, I was wounded. After being cured in the hospital, I returned to my unit. In February 1944 I was sent to the training and retraining courses for political staff, in May 1944 I graduated from the courses and was sent by the battalion commander with the rank of second lieutenant of the First Belorussian front. On the 4th of September, 1944, I was severely concussed near the city of Warsaw and was sent for treatment to a hospital, where I remained until the 15th of February, 1945.” Pyotr Stepanovich met the Victory day near Berlin in units of the 47th army of the reserve of the First Belorussian front. For further service he was sent to the Novosibirsk military district, to the city of Omsk, and from there to the city of Yalutorovsk. P.S Gundarev was discharged in November 1945. On the 23th of October, 1946, he joined secondary school no. 1 as a librarian, where he worked for 22 years. In 1967 he joined the district communications center where he worked for 12 years as a special communications forwarder. In the personal file of P.S.Gundarev you can see his memories of the war years and letters from the front in the form of a triangle, an envelope. There is nothing more exciting than reading these letters addressed to mother, family, dated the 12th of February, 1943, the 27th of January, 1943, the 28th of February, 1943, the 4th of March, 1944. The postcards say “Death to the German occupiers”. The young soldier wrote then that the service was going well, that his health was excellent, and that he was also well fed and clothed, but he could not write much because there was no more time. And the memory of P. S.Gundarev keeps the image of soldiers and the battle in a burning wheat field and the death of a wounded commander, when a German shell accurately hit the raincoat that covered him. He used to say often: “Remember the old soldiers. We must fight with all our might for the cause of peace.” His fellow soldiers often wrote him letters and sent him memorials. For his military and peaceful work, Petr Stepanovich was awarded the order of the Red Star, of the Great Patriotic War of the first degree, medals “For Bravery”, “For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic war of 1941-1945”, all jubilee medals of the Victory, commemorative medals of the armed forces of the USSR, the medal of G. K. Zhukov, the badge “Veteran of the 47th army”, the jubilee medal “For valiant labor”, “In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of V. I. Lenin”, the sign “Winner of the social competitions”, his name was entered in the Book of Honor of the regional department of special communications on the 4th of November, 1971, he also was rewarded with many certificates of honor at various levels.
