Slukhaenko Michael Savelievich

My great-grandfather Mikhail Slukhayenko was born on October 12, 1924 in the village of Dmitrievka in the Novoaydarsky district of the Luhansk region of the Ukrainian SSR. In October 1942, my great-grandfather was drafted into the Armed Forces of the USSR. During his service, he was promoted to the rank of Junior Sergeant. Ihe was in the Red Army since August 1, 1944. On October 13, 1944, he was awarded the medal «For bravery» for "exemplary performance of the command's combat tasks on the front of the fight against the German invaders". And on October 14, he was wounded, received a shrapnel wound to the right shoulder with bone damage. After the hospital, my grandfather returned to his comrades and continued to drive the fascists from our motherland. Since 1944, the Soviet Army began liberation actions in Europe against the German invaders. My grandfather was involved in breaking through the German defenses on the West Bank of the Narew river, North of Warsaw. And in this regard, by order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Marshal of the Soviet Union comrade Stalin, on January 17, 1945, gratitude was declared for excellent combat actions. In February 1945, gratitude was declared for the capture of the town and fortress of Torun. On the approaches to Germany, they crossed the East and West Oder rivers, broke through the strongly fortified German defenses on the West Bank of the Oder, captured the main city of Pomerania and the large port of Stettin. For this, gratitude was expressed to the grandfather and all the personnel of their unit. Thanks were also given for the capture of the cities of Rostock and Warnemunde - major ports and important German naval bases on the Baltic sea, for the capture of important road junctions and strong German defense strongholds. By the order of the regiment commander of the 70th Army dated April 23, 1945, "for exemplary performance of combat missions of the command on the front of the fight against the German invaders", he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner. On May 24, 1945, by order of the 165th Rifle Sedletskaya Red Nanner Ddivision of the order of Kutuzov , Junior Sergeant Mikhail Slushayenko was awarded the Order of the Red Atar. After the war ended, my great-grandfather returned home and began rebuilding the country. He worked as a driver on MAZ. He got married and had a son - my grandfather Yura. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, my great-grandfather Mikhail Slushayenko was awarded the medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945" and all jubilee medals Of the armed forces of the USSR.
