Sanozvan Daniil AAleksandrivich

My great-grandfather Danila was born in the Ukraine, in the village of Osich, baturinsky (now Bakhmachsky) district, Chernihiv region. In the pre-war period, he worked as a forester on a kholhoz. On July 12, 1941, he was drafted into the Red Army and sent to the front. In one of the battles, he was surrounded and captured. The group of prisoners in which he was held was transferred to the Crimean Peninsula in a German concentration camp. All the time I was in the concentration camp, my great-grandfather was looking for ways to escape. The first attempt was unsuccessful. The fugitives were detained. For trying to escape, my great-grandfather was transferred to strict control methods in a concentration camp. In the concentration camp, my great-grandfather was with his fellow villager, who offered to escape from the concentration camp again, but he refused, fearing for his life. The second attempt to escape was successful, and my great-grandfather was released. He wanted to get to the Russian troops, but he knew that he was in the deep German rear. Getting to the front line would be very difficult. Therefore, he developed a plan of action - hiding in the woods during the day to avoid falling into the hands of the Germans, and at night making his way towards the front line. During his journey he asked villagers for help, they helped with food, clothing, and what they could. About two months later, at night, he crossed the front line and went to the location of the Red Army. Due to the fact that he did not have any documents, he independently crossed the front line. He told SMERSH employees that he was in German captivity. He was sent to the camp to check and clarify the data. And then, after checking the information about him and signing a paper that he was ready to fight and atone for his guilt with blood, he was sent to the penal battalion. My great-grandfather Daniil Alexandrovich was wounded twice after returning to the front – on November 18, 1943 and February 20, 1944. After the first wound, he was transferred from the penal company to the position of a submachine gunner of the 130th Guards Rifle twice Red Banner Regiment of the Baranovich Red Banner Division of the order of Suvorov . For participation in military operations: expansion of the bridgehead on the Vistula river, for participation in the defeat of the German group near Danzig (destroyed 7 Germans with personal weapons and captured 4) he was presented with the Order of the Red Star.
