Susaev Vasily
Title: Sergeant. Type of troops: Land forces, Air Forces (except naval aviation), coast service, NKVD troops, border guards, When my grandfather was 18 years old, there was a war. He was drafted into the army. In April 1943, he was sent to the active army of the 18th Tank Corps of the 32nd Motorized RifleBbrigade. My grandfather, Vasily Sasaev, recalls: on July 6, 1943, there was a strong battle in the village of Prokhorovka. Planes flew like rooks in the sky. We had to run across the line of fire. A six-barrelled mortar was fired in a staggered pattern. Bombs were falling from the sky. Running across the line of fire, grandfather thought: "Thank God-I managed to", and then saw in the sky: "bomb" thought flashed - I won't have time. Fall to earth. The bomb exploded nearby, the grandfather was covered with everything and again the thought-thank God is alive and not injured. And again in battle. House-by-house liberation has begun. It was absolute hell! The heat was +40 degrees. The train has landed and you see the train is no longer there." And on July 11, my grandfather was wounded. After my grandfather was discharged, he was sent to the active army in the 16th Tank Corps of the 107th Tank Brigade and walked to the reserve regiment. And that was a lot of kilometers. From the reserve regiment, the troops were transferred to the Bryansk forests, where they lived in dugouts. In the dugouts there was also a dining room, in the dugouts there was also a bath. Before the new year on December 30, 1943, we went to Kiev. The New Year was celebrated on the train. It was snowing. The soldiers came out on the platform and began to run themselves in the snow. They unloaded tanks at Belaya Tserkva, went into battle, and were immediately surrounded. There were 8-9 tanks, and 4 tanks left the battle. The next day, these 4 tanks were also burned. The attacks started. The Germans expected to restore the defense of the Dnieper river, and the Korsun-Shevchenko salient was a convenient springboard from which to strike at the flanks of the 1st and 2nd Ukrainian fronts. The enemy was rushing to the Korsun-Shevchenko salient. Repulsed the attack in one place-the enemy broke through in another place. Day repulsed the attack, intelligence brought information where the enemy broke through. At night, they moved troops to that place. We slept on the move. Go in formation on the "machine" and sleep. If suddenly the first row stopped-fell directly to the ground in a puddle, and also if the first row started to go-all the others went on "automatic". (When the fight started, they woke up right away, grandpa jokes). Water spilled and went constantly to the water, the battle was in the water, in the dugouts water. Wet all the time, it's cold outside, and it's freezing at night. In this mode, the battle went on from February 6, and on March 6, my grandfather was wounded while crossing the river. 5 wounded were carried under the bridge - so they lay there, and the battle continued. When the fight stopped, everyone was pulled out and carried to wherever they were.» My grandfather was put in a house with no windows and no doors. The house was large and spacious, but it was cold. So, the grandfather lay there all night, and in the morning the orderly came and asked: - Didn’s they take you take away? And the grandfather said: - Who will take away?! They put him on the tank. They drived a short way and stop. They lit a fire and warmed themselves. So they got to sanbat, and there it was warm as in Paradise! They washed, warmed and then went to the hospital. They put the wounded man on a horseback and lead the horse, and the grandfather was supported so that he din’t not fall. They took him to the narrow-gauge railway, put him on it,s and hin them to the junction station, and then to the hospital .And after recovery - again to the front. In total, the grandfather was injured three times. After the last wound, he was discharged due to the 2nd disability group. He returned home on two crutches. Military awards - the Order of the Red Star, the Order of the "Patriotic war of the 1st class", the medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic war of 1941-1955" And many other medals. On April 13, 2018, at the age of 94, my grandfather passed away.
