Suldin Philip Efremovich, my grandfather, was born in 1922 and went to the front at the age of 19. He was a platoon Commander of 123rd Guards artillery Riga Regiment of 53rd Guards Rifle Tartu Red Banner motto. He had been part of 3 Leningrad, 1 and 2 Baltic fronts from 1941 to 1945, ended the war in Riga. He was presented to the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd degree for courage and fearlessness, for skillful fire control of the battery and ensuring the accelerated advancement of a supported Rifle Battalion in combats when breaking through defenses in the Petermuiža, Krimunas, Putnu-Zhids area on December 23-26, 1944. _x000D_ Being all the time in combat formations of the advancing infantry 157 GVSP, he adjusted the fire of his battery at enemy firing points. According to its correction, 5 heavy and light machine guns, 2 guns of 105 mm were destroyed, scattered and partly destroyed before an infantry platoon. He personally took part in three attacks of our infantry and on 12/25/1944 was the first to break into the enemy's trenches and shot two Nazis with his personal weapons. In eachcombat he acted decisively, skillfully and courageously, inspiring the soldiers of his platoon to complete any assigned combat mission. Being in the combat formations of the infantry, he repeatedly participated in attacks with her, twice replaced the out-of-order Commanders of Rifle companies in combats and led them to perform combat missions. Thus, in the combats of February 20-23, 1945, in the area of Priekule, he was also in the infantry combat formations, skillfully leading reconnaissance and adjusting the fire of his battery. On the night of February 21-22, when the enemy in a large group, supported by tanks and self-propelled guns, tried to break out of the encirclement, Philip Efremovich, together with his recons and platoon signalmen, courageously fought off the advancing enemy. _x000D_ At the same time, 12 Hitlerites were destroyed by his soldiers and by him personally from service weapons. In a combat with the enemy that night, he was wounded, but did not leave the combatfield, but continued to lead the repulsion of the enemy counterattack and personally exterminate the Nazis. In the combats of February 22-23, he replaced the killed battery Commander and, adjusting the fire of his guns, knocked out a self-propelled gun, destroyed two machine-gun points, suppressed the fire of a separate enemy gun standing on direct fire, scattered and partially destroyed 2 enemy infantry groups up to a company each, preparing for counterattack. _x000D_ He was awarded the Order of the Red Star. He died in January 1960 from an illness in the city of Troitsk, Chelyabinsk region.
