Alexander Matveyevich Medvedev was born in 1923 in the village of Novy Burets, Vyatskopolyansky District, Kirov Region. After graduating 7 classes of the school, in 1939 he entered the feldsher-obstetric school. On September 11, 1941, as an 18-year-old boy, he was called to the war front. The combat path of the Lieutenant of Medical Service A.M. Medvedev began in 334th Infantry Division of the Kalinin Front with the combat for Moscow, as part of the combat units of 43rd Army of 1st Baltic, and then 3rd Belorussian fronts._x000D_ He liberated the Smolensk region, Belarus, the Baltic states, participated in the capture of Konigsberg. For the displayed valor and courage he was awarded: the Order of the Red Star and the Patriotic War of 1st degree, medals "For Defense of Moscow", "For Military Merit", "For Courage", "For Capture of Konigsberg", "For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 ". _x000D_ The lines from the grandfather's award sheets are striking. So, in 1943, in 3 days of the offensive, Alexander Matveyevich assisted 90 wounded soldiers, 12 of whom, together with their personal weapons, carried them from the combat under enemy fire, skillfully directed the actions of the orderlies. The Commanders note his courage and fearlessness, because he not only saved the lives of hundreds of wounded, but also participated n combat personally with weapons in his hands, repelled enemy attacks and went on the offensive. _x000D_ After the end of the war, my grandfather was in Poland with our troops, was the military commandant of one of the Polish towns. At the beginning of 1947, after demobilization, he returned to his native land, worked as a medical assistant in the villages of the Vyatka-Polyansky district, married a fellow villager Elizabeth, they had a daughter, Nina, my mother. However, the peaceful life did not last long. From May 1952 to the end of 1955, in connection with the war on the Korean Peninsula, he was again drafted into the army, served in military hospitals in Ulyanovsk and on Sakhalin Island. _x000D_ After demobilization, together with his family, he returned to his homeland, where he worked in an ambulance, and then for more than a quarter of a century as a doctor in the office of the district hospital.
