Troops: USSR Navy and Naval Forces Border Guards NKVD. I was born in peaceful time. I heard about the war on TV and read in books. In a conversation with my mother, by chance, it turned out that my grandfather, my mother's father, participated in the Great Patriotic War. Grandfather Vanya was born in one thousand nine hundred and twenty-fourth year in the village Kvasovo Uritsky district, and at the beginning of the war he was only fifteen years old. The fascists very quickly seized the village where he lived. Life during the occupation was very hard. It was very hungry and scary, he had to live in dugouts. It was necessary to hide from fascists and policemen, because young people were hijacked to work in Germany. Grandfather was saved from the hijacking by an accident, the tractor ran over his leg. There was a complicated fracture, and the leg wouldn’t come together for a long time. In the forty-third year, the Soviet troops liberated his village. Grandfather Vanya was immediately drafted into the army. He fought in the Baltic Fleet in the Marines. He took part in many combat operations. Grandfather freed the Baltics from the Nazis. He was wounded twice. After treatment in hospitals, he returned to his home unit and continued fighting. He finished the war in Koenigsberg. My grandfather fought with dignity, for which he was awarded two medals, but unfortunately, they have not been preserved. My mother said that my grandfather did not like to talk about the war. She showed me a photo, where my grandfather was in military uniform. This is the only photo from the war. My grandfather was demobilized in the forty-seventh year, and soon married my grandmother. I am proud of my grandfather. He had to endure a lot: to survive the military rush, to defend his Homeland with dignity, and then to establish life in his native collective farm. My grandfather worked hard and died young, and the military wounds - shrapnel in his arm and back - affected him. I will never forget that I had a grandfather who fought for our peaceful life and the blue sky above our heads.
