In 1941, Arsalan Zhambalov, as the winner of the regional competition of young artists (paintings "At the harvest" and "Landscape" took first place), was enrolled in the Moscow secondary art school. But the war with Hitler's Germany began... As he had not reached the draft age, he, together with his peers, was sent on the line of the military commissariat for accelerated service in Chita school of factory - factory training (FZO). In August 1942, Arsalan Zhambalov left the town of Shilka for service in the army. The first months of army service were spent in the training mortar battalion at Malta station in Irkutsk region. Six months later, in February 1943, the battalion was alerted, the soldiers were put in freight cars and brought to the south-eastern border of the Homeland. The youth did not sulk in the face of difficulties. Arsalan Zhambalov, having a minute free of combat and political training, took notes in his small notebook, which he always carried in the breast pocket of a shirt. As a result, during 1944-1945 he managed to write more than ten stories and two dozen poems on military theme. He sent them to the editorial offices of the newspapers “Agyn Nen” and “Buryad-Mongoloy Nen”, which published the soldier's works and sent him newspaper issues with them. All of his division's fellow countrymen gathered in free hours and organized collective readings of Buryat newspapers. In addition, Arsalan Zhambalov was a war correspondent for the editorial office of the Transbaikal Military District 'At Combat Post' and wrote notes on the combat and political training of soldiers and sergeants. In early August 1945, the Red Army had to eliminate the threat from the east - to defeat the Kwantung Army of Japan in Manchuria. At that time, Arsalan Zhambalov was studying at the Transbaikal Military and Infantry School of Junior Commanders and was recalled to his unit. The 210th Infantry Division was given the name "Khinganskaya" for successfully overcoming the Great Khingan. All personnel were given a commendation. So, the war with Japan began with lightning speed and ended in a short time.
