Title: Senior Lieutenant Troops: Ground Forces, Air Force (except marine aviation), Coast Guard, NKVD, Border Guard Division: 171st Rifle Division (1st formation) Alexey Evstegneevich Zhuravlev was born in 1905 in Rostov region, in the city of Taganrog. He was married, wife Zhuravleva Natalya Alekseevna. Member of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks, the Red Army since October 1936. After graduation from military school he served as commander of machine-gun company of 525th rifle regiment of 171st rifle division. 171st rifle regiment was deployed on September 18, 1939 on the basis of the 38th Don Mikoyan Rifle Division. Before the war, it was located in the North Caucasus Military District. It met the beginning of the war on the territory of the Kharkov Military District at the time of its relocation to the west. On July 12, the 27th Infantry Corps's division began concentrating in the Yasnogorodka area. By midday, the 15th, along with other units of the Corps, began to arrive at the Teterev-Mikulici station on the Kiev-Korosteny railroad and the next day engaged the infantry and tanks at the Nalivaikovka-Makarov border. On July 17, the Germans again tried to break through the division's positions in the Liptovka area, after which the division continued to fight for several days in that area. According to the information from the 525th RD combat route dated June 29, 1941, the commander of the machine-gun company of the 525th rifle regiment, Senior Lieutenant A.E. Zhuravlev, was killed on July 15, 1941, fighting with fascist invaders in the Ukrainian SSR, Kiev region, Makarov district, Andreyevka village.
