My grandfather always had tears in his eyes. So we: children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, knew so little about him, our grandfather. What a pity and shame! My great-grandfather was born on March 8, 1921 in the village of Polyana, Ternovsky Raion, Voronezh Oblast, to a family with many children (three brothers and two sisters). Ivan was the youngest. In October 1940, my great-grandfather's parents: father Vasiliy Ivanovich and mother Natalia Abramovna escorted their youngest Vanyusha to serve in the Soviet Army. The service was held in the 100th Mountain Rifle Regiment. He became a sergeant and was appointed deputy political worker for his success in the service. It was there that he received the news of the beginning of the war. My great-grandfather and his fellow countrymen gathered at the Ternovo Military Committee of the Voronezh region, and they were assigned a training camp. My parents accompanied their son Ivan to the war; their eldest son vasiliy was already at the fronline. Therefore, parents wiped tears and hugged their son. The order "Get ready!" interrupted the farewell. The new recruits went to war. Our soldier fought bravely, received several light wounds, but did not go to the hospital, became a senior sergeant and served as a political worker. He was always at the front, leading the fighters with him. His 150th Independent Rifle Battalion held back the fierce attacks of the Nazis. But in early July 1942, the Germans took over Voronezh. And on August 7, 1942, Zhdankin Ivan Vasilyevich was seriously wounded in the right thigh and right knee. He got to the evacuation hospital № 3582 in Alma-Ata, where he was treated for a long time. February 12, 1943 he sent a photo to his parents. During the last fight, where he was seriously wounded, my great-grandfather Zhdankin Ivan Vasilyevich was awarded the medal "For bravery", which his grandfather cherished very dearly, by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for bravery, firmness and courage, shown in the fight against German - fascist invaders. And in March 1944, because of the gravity of his wounds, he was released from military duty.So for my great-grandfather, the war ended.
