German troops on the Mius River created a heavily fortified defensive line, the so-called "Mius-Front", which they held from February to August 1943. On August 17, 1943, in the area of ​​the Kuibyshevsky farm on the Mius River, during the construction of a ford crossing, acting as part of a pontoon department for laying the road, Konstantin Yakovlevich showed himself to be a staunch and courageous warrior. Despite the strongest enemy mortar fire, Konstantin Yakovlevich showed an excellent example of work at the site of his work. the crossing for the passage of heavy tanks was completed ahead of schedule for 3 hours, which contributed to the fastest advance of our tanks to break through the enemy's defenses. For skillful and well-coordinated actions, Konstantin Yakovlevich was awarded the medal "For Courage". November 1944. When the battalion was carrying out a combat mission to ferry troops across the Tisza River in the Tashkoni region, from November 7 to 17, Konstantin Yakovlevich towed a ferry carrying carts with his boat. He made 30 trips a day, in only 3 days of operation of the ferry, he transferred 620 carts and 5116 infantrymen to the right bank of the river. During the entire operation of the crossing, his boat did not have a single stop. Perfectly coping with the crossing of military cargo, Konstantin Yakovlevich fully ensured the fulfillment of the task assigned to the battalion. For which he was awarded a government award - the Order of the Red Banner. December 1944. On the night of December 4-5, the battalion was tasked with setting up a ferry crossing in the Erchi area. Immediately after the landing, Konstantin and his boat were assigned to tow the ferry. To support the first echelon, it was necessary to immediately ferry artillery. despite the strongest enemy fire, Konstantin Yakovlevich made 7 flights in 4 hours. He had to work at night and under enemy fire, overcoming all difficulties, he continued to ferry equipment to the right bank. For courage and heroism, Konstantin Yakovlevich Agafonov was awarded the Order of Glory, 3rd degree. Konstantin died on January 24, 1945 when a boat was blown up by a mine on the Danube River, he was buried in the village of Chepel, 4 km away south of Budapest (Hungary).
