Village of Alansky, Irkutsk Region_x000D_ 25.04.1900 - 09.05.1958_x000D_ Born on April 25, 1900. Mikhail served in the Red Army from 1919. He was a member of the party – a member of the VKB(b) since 1925. He participated in the Civil War and in subsequent military operations to protect the USSR. In 1919, as member of the Combined Cadet Brigade on the Southern Front, he fought against Wrangel and Makhno._x000D_ He took part in the fight against banditry in the Far East as a member of the 86th Cavalry Regiment in 1920-1921, and the conflict on Eastern Chinese Railroad in 1923-1924._x000D_ In November 1941, from Irkutsk, with the rank of _x000D_ _x000D_ As a Quartermaster of the 3rd rank, he was sent from Irkutsk to the headquarters of the Leningrad Front in November 1941. According to available information, he did not return to the place of service. Mikhail as it turned out from Leningrad was sent to the front, where he took part in the battles._x000D_ During his long service in the Red Army, he gained a lot of experience, and this experience was skillfully applied in the combat operations of army units to defeat the German invaders._x000D_ During the offensive operations of the army troops, contributed to the success of combat operations. In the award lists that I found, my grandfather was described as a hardworking, disciplined, experienced and executory officer. Under enemy fire, regardless of life, he achieved the staffing of rifle companies. When he went to combat units, he assisted the command in training personnel and in using them correctly in combat operations. Grandfather's front-line path ran from Leningrad, where he participated in the defense and liberation of the city, then as a member of the 2nd Shock Army, grandfather participated in the liberation of Estonia, Konigsberg and the territory of Poland, where he met the end of the war over fascism._x000D_ He was awarded many orders and medals:_x000D_ Order of the Patriotic war 2nd degree (90027),_x000D_ Order of the Patriotic War 1st degree (100956),_x000D_ Order of the Red Banner (139172),_x000D_ Order of Lenin (32591),_x000D_ Order of the Patriotic War 1st degree (189983),_x000D_ Order of the Red Banner (19536),_x000D_ Medal For the Defense of Leningrad,_x000D_ Medal For the Capture of Konigsberg,_x000D_ Medal For the Victory over Germany,_x000D_ Jubilee medal XX Years of the Workers and Peasants Red Army,_x000D_ Jubilee medal XXX Years of the Soviet Army and Navy._x000D_ The Patriotic War was over, but not for my grandfather. As an experienced officer, he was sent to the Far East to defeat the Japanese invaders._x000D_ At the end of the war, the Soviet government offered him several options for living. He chose the city of Kursk. My grandfather was given a plot of land in the center of the city. On this plot, he built a house and planted a large garden. Before the war, Mikhail painted a lot and very well. His paintings still adorn our family homes. And in peacetime, he continued to do what he loved, painting. He gave his paintings to the City, museums, and schools. These paintings still adorn city institutions._x000D_ Mikhail died on Victory Day, May 9, 1958. He was buried at the Nikitsky Cemetery in Kursk, where there is a memorial to the soldiers fallen at war and the eternal flame of memory is burning._x000D_ Of course, it is a pity that I did not have to talk to him. I would have learned from him more about how they spent a lifetime winning the victory over fascism. Our grandfathers fulfilled his duty to the Motherland with honor, showed courage, valor, indomitable will to win, and defended the freedom and independence of our country._x000D_ I am immensely proud that I had such a grandfather, Mikhail Panov, and that we have such a great people. I bow my head to the memory of the fallen and those who did not live to this day, having died of wounds and diseases after the Great Patriotic War._x000D_ "No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten"._x000D_ We must always remember this and not forget how valuable our freedom is.
