My first battle was at Stalingrad. The battles at Stalingrad were the most terrible - it thunders, rumbles, they shoot at us, tanks are coming at us, we are pulling the wounded, someone is being crushed by tanks. The enemy is conducting very strong machine-gun fire to kill. During one of the battles at Stalingrad, when our unit captured the first line of defense and launched an attack on the second, communication with the headquarters was lost. I was ordered to find a broken cable and restore communication. Holding on to the cable, I crawled towards the battle line. Shells were bursting around, machine guns were firing - I couldn't even raise head , I didn't even notice that was wounded in the hand. Finally, I found a break, almost on the confrontation line. I connected the wires by pinching them with his teeth. At this moment, the leg was wounded, a shell fragment hit in the cheek. I woke up in the hospital.
