My great-grandfather Nikolai Baranov was born on May 20, 1926. From birth, he lived in Kazakhstan, Alma-Ata Region, the village of Glinovka. His father participated in World War I, where he was wounded several times and in the post-war years he died of his wounds. Mother Feodosiya was a housewife and during the war was alone with 5 children at home, of which my great-grandfather was the oldest.
At the age of 17, N. Baranov was sent first for 3-4 months to a training camp near Semipalatinsk, after which, after passing military training, he was sent to the front.
During the Great Patriotic War, as asoldier of the 3rd Belorussian Front, he participated in the East Prussian operation, in the storming of Konigsberg, and in the capture of the 5th Fort.
Nikolai Baranov has many medals, including one For the Capture of Konigsberg (present-day Kaliningrad). He has the Order of the Red Star and the Order of Glory.
During the fighting, Nikolai was wounded in the head, after which he became a disabled person of group 2 due to the loss of his left eye. After being shot in the head, he was in a hospital in the city of Baranovichi in Belarus. After the hospital, Nikolai Baranov returned to Konigsberg to restore the city.
On victory day, May 9, 1945, he was in Konigsberg. After the Victory, he returned home to Kazakhstan. Married and raised 5 children, was a good husband, father and grandfather. He died on October 8, 1998, having lived 72 years.
