Korzh Nikita Petrovich

Nikita Petrovich Korzh went into active military service in 1929, started working in a collective farm after 8 years in the army and was called to the front in August 1941. From the memoirs of a soldier in the Red Army: "The Starominsky platform resembled an anthill, women sobbed, clutching their children to their breasts and imploring us to return. First he came to Ukraine, fought in the Sumy region, and then their regiment was transferred to Moscow. The Kuban-Kosak received his baptism of fire at Naro-Fominsk. There he received his first medal "for bravery", after he had fulfilled the commander's task of tracking down and taking out a German sniper. The battle of 10 October 1941 Nikita Petrovich remained in his memory for the rest of his life. From the Red Army memoirs: "The Germans scribbled incessantly from machine guns and mortars, burned nearby textile factory, blocked their breath with the stench of smoldering cotton wool. When they saw that the commander shouted "Attack!" without taking a step, fell, knocked down by a bullet, the 36-year-old Nikita Petrovich, who was looking around for the young boys, decided that he should take command as an older man, but soon received a wound in his left leg, lost consciousness. Only at night, under cover of darkness, a nurse in a raincoat dragged them to a safe place. Then he lay in the evacuation hospital in Saransk for 6 months, only in spring 1942 he returned home as an invalid. His family only narrowly escaped execution and survived thanks to the liberation of the village of Starominskaya from the invaders. From the author: "The veteran of the Great Patriotic War did not receive his legitimate medal" for the defense of Moscow. According to relatives he was not included in the lists of participants in the fighting near Moscow. I think the reward will find its hero after all".
