Kolesnik Vera Vasilyevna
In November 1922 the gray-eyed girl Vera was born on a small farm in the vast steppes of Ukraine. From early childhood she worked, helped her parents in the fields, at home. Lessons - last but not least, lying on her stomach in the mowed stubble field, herding a herd of cows. The school is five kilometers from home, back and forth every day. But the girl proved to be capable, learned well, and her parents wanted to train their daughter as a teacher. The teacher is the most respected person in the village, and in 1941 the girl is studying at the Teacher's Institute. The terrible news of the beginning of the war hit the black plate of the loudspeaker, she lost consciousness, slipped down the wall. The institute said: "Go home. Then I learned that the teacher of the institute, the handsome poet P Artemenko, created a partisan underground, was tortured by the Nazis in a concentration camp in Lubny, Poltava region. In the homeland under the Nazis, working in a collective farm (the Germans kept the collective farms), overslept in the field early in the morning, the local policemen will mark with the whip. 1943 - the Red Army marched into Ukraine, but the retreating fascists took the "color of the nation" - young girls, women. Berlin... a huge camp barrack... Drudge work in a cable factory... hunger... turnip soup with worms. Prisoners from France received parcels while Soviet prisoners starved to death. Then, in the slave market, the landowner's wife liked her. The work was hard, but at night they managed to boil potatoes and gather apples. Through the woman's reaction she learned about the affairs at the front, she asked if it was cold in Siberia, it was clear that she was preparing for exile to far-off lands. So Vera realized that the Soviet troops were advancing, but the hope for liberation was illusory, she believed that the war ended at the border. And she did not react to the timid wooing of her unhappy brother, a man from Siberia, because she wanted to return to her homeland. Finally, the long awaited victory left the Folvark in May 1945 to meet the Soviet soldiers. The ruins, a terrible mess, finally reached the location of the unit. They asked: "Educated?" They reported as civilians and handed out rations. So she served until autumn. She really wanted to go home and could not imagine life without home. Finally at home she finished studies at the Pedagogical Institute in Kiev. She lived in a hostel in a room for 20 people, Khreshchatyk (Central Street of Kiev) in ruins. She went home for bread crumbs and a piece of bacon - on the running board of a suburban train. After graduating from the Pedagogical Institute - a teacher in the Kiev region. Terrible grief - a friend of the village at the Institute went to teach children in Western Ukraine. Returned in a closed coffin - Bandera killed. Post-war life continued as usual: marriage, birth of a daughter. But life was not limited to the family, she was involved in social work, was very kind, friendly, helpful in word and deed. Vera Vasilyevna, awarded the anniversary medals "50 years of victory in the Great Patriotic War" and "60 years of victory in the Great Patriotic War".
