Korshunov Nikolai Kuzmich
Nikolai Kuzmich Korshunov was born in 1922. Brief military autobiography. At the beginning of the war, I served in the Caspian flotilla, but when the enemy approached the capital of our homeland, Moscow, and there was a threat for Moscow, a 75th naval brigade was formed from the sailors of the Caspian fleet and transferred to protect the city. On November 20, 1941, our troops launched an offensive on the Western Kalinin front, and our brigade led an offensive to Mozhaisk. Our fighting impulse was so high that the Germans could not hold back our onslaught. I fought as an ordinary sailor in a company of submachine gunners. The Germans suffered huge losses, but our losses were also significant. After the liberation of Mozhaisk, our brigade was transferred to the Kalinin front, liberated Kalinin, Bologoe, and continued the offensive in the North-West direction to Kholm. During the fights, I was promoted to the rank of senior Sergeant and appointed to the position of a platoon commander. Under the city of Holm there were very fierce battles, the locality of Tarakanovka passed three times in one day to the Germans, then to us. By the end of the day, we had to leave the village, where only 7 houses left, and only 9 people left from the battalion. For 6 months of combat operations, we were awarded the guards rank and the brigade became known as the "Third guards marine brigade". At the beginning of may 1942, we were taken to rest, where on the basis of the brigade the 27th division was formed, and in July we were transferred to defense Stalingrad. They took up the area of Kotluban state farm and fought fierce battles for every meter of land. I had to fight three or four attacks per day off. At that time I was in command of a machine-gun platoon and was supporting a company that was defending a small height with fire. The Germans launched numerous attacks, and every time we were repulsed with heavy losses for them. During the defensive battles, we did not retreat a single meter. For these battles, I was awarded the rank of officer and the order of the red star. On November 19, 1942, our troops went to the attack, the enemy was surrounded, suffering huge losses in manpower and equipment. On February 2, 1943, the encircled army surrendered. In March 1943, we were transferred to the Central front, to Kursk bulge, near Sevsk, where we were preparing for the upcoming battles. I was appointed Deputy company commander, but did not stay there for a long, just until July 1943, and did not participate in the Grand battle. I was sent to the airborne troops, to a special group. Three months of training and then twice thrown behind the front line. In March 1944, after completing the task, when the group returned to the location of its troops, we were raided by German aircraft. I was shell-shocked. After the hospital, I did not return to the paratroopers and was sent to the second Belorussian front in the 78th anti-aircraft artillery division of the 34th anti-aircraft machine gun regiment, where remained until the end of the war. I ended the war in Poland, in the city of Gdansk.
