Alexander Nikitovich Gudanov was the Commander of a Machine-gun Company of the 226th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 74th Guards Rifle Division of the 8th Guards Army of the 1st Belorussian Front. He worked as an explosive technic on the Petrozavodsk-Murmansk railway line. In March 1942, he was drafted into the Red Army. He participated in the battles of the War war since June 1942. In 1943, he graduated from the Junior Lieutenant course. Passed the battle path from Stalingrad to Berlin. He was wounded twice. His machine-gunners fought bravely in the Ukraine, in Moldavia, on the Vistula and Oder. He distinguished himself in April-may 1945 in the battle for Berlin. During the assault on a heavily fortified object, Alexander Nikitovich, provided the infantry with machine-gun fire to the line of attack. His soldiers drove the Nazis out of the quarter,and the Regiment advanced. Then the path of the attackers was blocked by a canal. Under enemy fire, the company crossed the water barrier and occupied a bridgehead. Alexander Nikitovich was seriously wounded in the leg, but continued to command the soldiers until reinforcements arrived. He was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the ""Gold Star"" medal for his exemplary performance of the command's combat missions during the Berlin operation and for his courage and heroism. In 1947, with the rank of Captain, Gudanov was dismissed to the reserve. He worked as Chairman of the collective farm, then in various institutions of the city of Kalinin. He lived in Kalinin. He was also awarded the Order of the ""Red banner"", the Order Alexander Nevsky, the Order of Suvorov of 3d class, the Order of ""Red Star"", as well as a number of medals. A street in Dnepropetrovsk is named after Gudanov. A monument to him was erected in Selizharovo."
