Vasily Golovin was born on February 27, 1904 in the village of Ermolino (now-Lyskovsky district of Nizhny Novgorod region) in a peasant family. Graduated from five classes of a rural school, worked on a collective farm. In 1926-1927, he served in the Workers 'and peasants' Red Army, where he graduated from the regimental school of Junior commanders. After demobilization, he lived in Nizhny Novgorod, worked as a riveter at the Krasnoe Sormovo factory. In 1933, he graduated from the evening art school, in 1939 he advanced training courses for reserve commanders. By the beginning of the war, Golovin was already working as an assistant to the head of the food Department at the Krasnoe Sormovo plant. In July 1941, he was re-drafted into the Army. From August 1941, he studied at the courses of political workers at the Gorky anti-aircraft artillery school, and from December of the same year he was a cadet at the military-political school. Since March 1944 he was fighting on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He participated in the Odessa offensive, the liberation of Tiraspol, the Iasi-Kishinev operation, and the liberation of Romania. Since September 1944, the Captain Vasily Golovin was the Deputy commander of the 2nd battalion in the political unit of the 1052nd Rifle Regiment of the 301st Rifle Division of the 5th Shock Army; in this position he fought on the 3rd Ukrainian and 1st Belorussian fronts. He distinguished himself during the fighting on the bridgehead Magnuszewski.On January 14, 1945, in the first hours of the offensive, Golovin's battalion captured two lines of trenches and the village of Vyboruv to the West of Magnushev. In those battles, Golovin led the fighters into the attack and destroyed 12 enemy soldiers. During the day, the battalion advanced 12 kilometers, capturing the locality of Lehanice, capturing large ammunition and weapons depots. Anchored on the heights North of Lehanice, the battalion fought off German counterattacks all day on January 15. During two days of fighting, the battalion destroyed 185 and captured 79 more enemy soldiers and officers, as well as suppressed 30 firing points. On February 19, 1945, Golovin was seriously wounded, and died on February 28 in the hospital of the field evacuation center No. 161.By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on March 24, 1945, Captain Vasily Golovin was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union for ""exemplary performance of command tasks and courage and heroism in breaking through the defense on the Pilitsa river and fighting on the bridgehead"". He was also awarded the order of Lenin and the ""Red Star"", and a medal."
