Goroev Mahmoud Goroevich
Rank: Red Army soldier. Type of service: Ground Forces, Air Force (except naval aviation), the Coast Guard, the NKVD troops, the Border guards. Unit: 38th Tank Division. Geroev Mahmoud Goroevich was born in 1890 in the village of Batlic, Khunzakh district. He was an active participant in the civil war of 1918-1920. During the encirclement of the fortress by the white guards, he was in the Samursky detachment, which was rushing to the aid of the partisans who were in the fortress. After the release of the surrounded Red Army soldiers, Mahmud went to the village of Kidir, where the family of the counter-revolutionary Zhatul Magomed and his sons were captured. Mahmud was captured in the battle for the village of Echedo. Each prisoner was given to separate master, and Mahmoud had to graze the temporary master's sheep only for a small meal. Mahmoud was released when the Bolshevics came to Tsumada. Mahmoud was wounded several times. After returning home, he worked on a collective farm, first as a herder, and then as a shepherd. After the organization of the collective farm, in the 1930s, Mahmud worked as the head of it. In March 1942, he went to the front and his four children and wife stayed home. He was enlisted by the Khunzakh military enlistment office. The family received their last message from Makhmud Goroev on June 26, 1942. He wrote that his division was going to defend Stalingrad. There were no more letters from him. There was only a notice ""Missing"" on May 20, 1945. His youngest son Gadjidad only survived, he is now 76 years old. He told us that the arrival of our local historians in his house was a blessing for him. We found the burial place of our compatriots: Goraev Mahmoud and Magomed Hajiyev. We informed the family and children of Goraev about this and invited them to Republic of Dagestan. From the archives we learned that Goroev M. was captured in Kantemirovka. On April 8, 1942, J.Stalin ordered to move against the Gotto and Paulus groups, so that they could not come from the rear. The South-Western front was not able to detain the enemy alone in the direction of Kantemirovka. In the evening of July 9, General Moskolenko, due to the threat of encirclement, without having any connection with the higher command, made an independent decision to withdraw the division of the 38th Army to the East. But the Germans got there first and Swanenburgh tanks passed Kantemirovka rapidly from the East. The operation in the Voronezh direction was successfully carried out by the Germans. They gave a strong blow to the troops of the South-Western front, the Germans captured 50,000 soldiers and officers. Garaev was taken prisoner here, he was wounded in the leg under tank shells."
