Golovanov Alexander Ivanovich

At the time of death he was a squad leader of the 191st rifle regiment of the 201st rifle division, a junior sergeant. He was born in 1905 in the village of Safrontsevo, now of the Kulikovo rural settlement of the Ivanovo district of the Ivanovo region, in a peasant family. Russian. In June 1941 he was called up into the Red Army by the Kochomsky district military commissariat. Since the August of the same year he participated in battles with the Nazi invaders. In 1942 he joined the All-Union Communist Party. By the end of 1944 he had 5 injuries: 4 light on the 6th September,the 10th of October, 1942, the 16th of June 16, 1943, and the 21st of February, 1944, and heavy on the 16th of October, 1943. By the beginning of 1945 junior sergeant Golovanov was fighting as a division commander of a rifle company of the 1248th rifle regiment of the 376th rifle division. In February 1944 the division fought with the Kurland group of the enemy in the direction of the city of Tukums (Latvia). In these battles junior sergeant Golovanov earned the first military award - the order of Glory of the 3rd degree. From the award list: “...participating in the reconnaissance battle, skillfully and fearlessly commanded his squad, dragging the squad, quickly broke into the enemy's trenches and personally destroyed 2 of his soldiers. Reflecting seven counterattacks of the enemy, he took a light machine gun and shot the Germans at point-blank range. On the 16th of February, 1945, junior sergeant Golovanov, acting boldly and fearlessly, participated in the capture of 14 prisoners. When the platoon commander was out of action, junior sergeant Golovanov took command of the platoon and successfully coped with his duties.” This order was not awarded when the order was signed junior sergeant Golovanov was in the hospital, he was wounded on the 17th of February. After recovery he was enlisted as a commander of the rifle division in the 191st rifle regiment of the 201st rifle division of the Leningrad front. In April 1945 as an excellent student of military and political training and having 6 wounds, he was awarded the medal “For Bravery” (the order of Glory is not mentioned in the award documents). In the spring of 1945 the division fought to destroy the Kurland group of the Nazis, fighting continued even after the fall of Berlin. On the 7th of May, 1945, junior sergeant Golovanov was killed in a battle near the village of Snapyimuizha (Tukum County, Latvia). He was buried at the site of the battle. After the war he was reburied at the military mass cemetery near the village of Irlava in the Tukum region of Latvia. He was awarded the order of Glory of the 3rd degree (on the 19th of February, 1945), the medal “For Bravery” (on the 24th of April, 1945).
