Bystritskaya Lidia

Lydia Georgievna Bystritskaya was born on the 20th of October, 1920 (according to other sources – on the 20th of February, 1921), in the city of Kherson in Ukraine, in a family of employees. After graduating from high school in 1937 she entered the Vinnytsia medical Institute at the faculty of medicine. As a 4th-year student, in July 1941, she went to the front as a volunteer and served as a doctor at the 212th mobile field hospital of the 12th Army of the South-Western front. In August 1941 she was wounded and was treated in the evacuation hospital in Krasnodar. After being discharged from the hospital the command sent her to the Krasnodar medical Institute to finish her studies. In August 1942, she was sent to the 11th special rifle division of the internal troops of the People's Commissariat of Internal Affaires of the North Caucasus front as a military doctor. In December 1942 she was assigned to the 351st rifle division in the 1159th rifle regiment as chief of the sanitary service where she served until May 1943. From May 1943 till December 1943 she was chief of the sanitary service of the 1157th rifle regiment. At the end of the fighting on the North Caucasus front in December 1943 the 351st rifle division was transferred to the 1st Ukrainian front. Then the division was disbanded and Lydia Bystritskaya was transferred to the 350th rifle division of the 1st Ukrainian front as chief of the sanitary service of the 1180th rifle regiment where she served until March 1944. During heavy fighting during the Korsun-Shevchenko operation near Zvenigorodka she was seriously wounded in the left lung and until July 1944 she was treated in the evacuation hospital no. 1106 in Kiev. After the end of treatment she was discharged for health reasons with the rank of a captain of the medical service (military doctor of the third rank). She was awarded the order of the Red Star and several medals. From October 1944 till September 1947 Lidia Georgievna worked as the head of the outpatient clinic in the village of Yurkovka, Shpikovsky district. In September 1947 she got married to Vasily Yerofeyevich Bratkovsky, a soldier, and went with him to South Sakhalin at his place of service. Since November 1947 she was hired as a battalion doctor of the 31st long-range aviation division in the village of Leonidovo in the Paronai district of the Sakhalin region. For health reasons in February 1948 she had to leave her job and went to her former place of residence in the Vinnytsia region. In May 1948 Lidia Georgievna Bystritskaya was appointed head of the Trostyanets district health department by the Vinnytsia regional health Department and worked until April 1950. In April 1950 she was transferred to the position of chief physician of the Teplik district hospital of the Vinnytsia region and worked until 1952. In connection with the restructuring of the antituberculous service in the region by the Vinnytsia regional health Department she was asked to head this service and in June 1952 she was transferred to the position of chief doctor of the Vinnytsia antituberculous dispensary where she worked until February 1954. In February 1954 due to poor health she was transferred to the southern coast of Crimea and appointed chief physician of the antituberculosis sanatorium "Red Mayak" in the village of Simeiz where she worked until August 1955. In August 1955 Bystritskaya Lydia Georgievna was transferred to the city of Simferopol and appointed temporary head of the department of methodology of the Crimean regional tuberculosis dispensary. In December 1955 she was elected Chairman of the Crimean regional Committee of the medical workers' Union and worked there until November 1962. In November 1962 she was transferred to the position of chief physician of the Crimean regional tuberculosis dispensary where she worked until her retirement in 1977. In 1977 she moved to the city of Yevpatoria and worked as a sanitary doctor at the pioneer camp-boarding house of the Southern railway. From may 1978 she worked as a dietitian at the children's sanatorium "Evpatoria" until February 1981. In February 1981 she returned to the city of Simferopol leaving for a well-deserved rest. In 1985 in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Victory she was awarded the order of the Patriotic war of the first degree. She died on the 1st of June, 1998, and was buried in Simferopol.
