Here the battalion of seamen was transferred to the 42nd Siberian separate brigade. Bystrov N. I. was appointed commander of the flamethrower brigade of the 4th separate rifle battalion. Next I will give an extract from the award list of Bystrov N. I. presenting him to the order of the Patriotic War: "On the 8th of September, 1942, the part of Bystrov N. I. fought in main line of defense and Bystrov personally led his tropp into a night battle, repelled the enemy’s attacks and held the line occupied by the troop. Being wounded, lieutenant Bystrov continued to fight to the last of his strength." He was carried out of the battlefield by his comrades and taken to the consolidated evacuation hospital. After the hospital (since the 20th of November, 1942) he continued to serve in the Northern Fleet as part of a sea convoy guarding allied transport ships going to the ports of Murmansk and Arkhangelsk, served in the chemical department of the Navy and in the department of combat training of ships of the Northern shipping company as a chemist of the department. In 1945 lieutenant (the rank of lieutenant was awarded in 1944) Bystrov N. I. was sent to the Pacific Fleet where the war with Japan began. Bystrov's service continued after the end of the both wars. In December 1947, already senior lieutenant, he was sent to the Black Sea fleet where he served in the division of sea minesweepers, who used to catch unexploded mines in all the seas of the USSR. He finished his service in Sevastopol at the end of 1948. He was awarded the Order of Patriotic War of second degree, medals "For defense of Soviet Arctic", "For defense of Stalingrad", "For military merits", "For the Victory over Germany", "For the Victory over Japan" and all commemorative medals. During the peaceful years Nikolay Bystrov worked at the Nekrasov machine-building plant as head of the technical control department. He raised two daughters. He was buried in the cemetery in the village of Nekrasovskoye. Bystrov N.I. had three brothers and all of them served the Motherland. Bystrov's elder brother Anatoly Ivanovich was killed at the front in 1942. Bystrov's middle brother Mikhail Ivanovich spent the entire Great Patriotic War working in the city of Gorky at a defense factory that produced tanks. Bystrov's younger brother Alexander Ivanovich participated in the battle of the Kursk bulge where he was seriously wounded and after a long treatment in hospital he was commissioned and also in peacetime he worked for the defense industry in the city of Leningrad.
