Islam Bokoev

Bokoev Islam was born on 15.07.1912 in the villages of Kadgaron of the Ardonskiy District of South Osetian ASSR. After graduaton from High School in 1934, he entered the preparation classes of the Krasnodar Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking, now the Polytechnic Institute. In 1935, he was enrolled in the 1st year. In 1938, as a 3rd-year student, among the top 10 students, members of the VKPB he was called up to the Cheka. In 1939, he arrived in North Ossetia as a junior officer and was appointed a Chief of the Alagir District Department of the NKVD. With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War and the approach of the front to Ossetia, he was engaged in the preparation and organization of a partisan detachment from citizens who were not called up to the ranks of the Army. Branch of service: NKVD and NKGB troops (except border guards). The task of the partisans was to hinder the advance of the German invaders into the Alagir gorge, as well as to collect infirmation on the number of German troops and their weaponry. The number of people in the detachment was about forty. The commander of the detachment was Ivan Btemirov, later Hero of Socialist Labor, former Secretary of the District Committee of the VKPB. Islam Bokoev was appointed Deputy Commander for operations. Several times, they managed to capture German prisoners and transfer them to a military unit based in Tamisk. After the retreat of the Germans from Alagir and Ossetia, the NKVD District Department headed by I. Bokoev was engaged in law enforcement, searching for and detaining deserters and saboteurs left into the rear. In 1946, I. Bokoev was transferred to the position of Chief of the Right Bank District Department of the NKVD in Beslan. After the reorganization of the NKVD into the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the KGB, I. Bokoev was transferred to the KGB office in Ordzhonikidze in 1953, where he served until 1963 as a Lieutenant Colonel and retired.
