Telnov Vasily Ivanovich

Rank: Lieutenant. Military branch: Land forces. From the memoirs of Vasily Ivanovich: "Our base was located on the outskirts of the city of Sevastopol. All this time, German planes were making raids. They were flying from the sea. At first, you could only recognize them by the hum of the engines, and then the reconnaissance planes themselves appeared in the sky. Such a plane will spin around for a while and fly away. It was forbidden to shoot, since the Non-aggression Pact was signed with Germany the day before. Our unit was not in an open area, but in a forest belt. An owl settled nearby. As it started crying, we shoud have waited for the German plane. Recnnaissance of the area was conducted by the enemy. And so, early in the morning on June 22, an owl began to cry, and an amplified hum was heard, which was not particularly reacted to, the unit was not in combat readiness. Planes appeared on the horizon of the sea, and more than one. Everything happened suddenly and unexpectedly, they flew one after the other, and as soon as they were level with the shore, the bombing began. The city and suburbs where the air force bases were located, including our base, were bombed all over the Bay. This is how the Great Patriotic war began for me." In June 1943, Vasily was transferred to Smolensk region, where the 3rd Belorussian Front was held. From his memoirs : "It was June 22, 1944, near the village of Krasnoe, Smolensk region. The 25-man reconnaissance group, where I was the Senior Officer, went out at 6 a.m. to investigate the battle. Our goal was to call out enemy fire to reveal the location of firing points that were previously unknown. There was a battle, from which not everyone returned, but they coped with the combat misson. The next day, joining the main troops, we went to break through the enemy's defenses. In the battle, I was wounded in the right thigh, arm and head, and was shell-shocked." From June to August 1944, Vasily was treated in hospital No. 3039. Then he was a Red Army soldier in the 208th Reserve Drill Regiment. From October 1944 to November 1945, he was a cadet at the Kazan tank school No. 9. His Position was a commander of a tank platoon. He was in reserve. The end of the Great Patriotic war he celebrated in Kazan. He died in 1995.
