Serov Ivan Ivanovich
Ivan Serov was born in the village of Nikolskaya, Yaroslavl Region. After finishing seven grades of school, he moved to Aleksandrov, where he studied railway power engineering and started working at a local power plant. 19-year-old Ivan wanted to try himself in the military service, he was recruited and sent to Arkhangelsk. He was assigned to service the electric power equipment of the military district. In Arkhangelsk, Ivan met Valentina, a girl from the town of Kotlas. She had graduated from a medical school and then volunteered for military service. Having good hearing and excellent memory, she was quickly registered as a radio operator. The friendship of the young people did not last long. The attack of the fascist troops scattered them in different directions. Ivan was sent to the city of Kandalaksha on the Karelian Front, where there were battles with the Finnish army. The approach of the enemy to Moscow forced the command to transfer additional forces to defend the capital. So Ivan Serov was in the ranks of the defenders of Moscow. Together with his fellow soldiers he repelled enemy night raids, extinguished numerous fires, and ran along the roofs of buildings, clearing them of dropped land mines and bombs. After the defeat of the German troops near Moscow Ivan remained in the capital. He was sent to the 1st Red Banner Military Aviation school of Communications. After graduation he was promoted to second Lieutenant and sent to the 2nd Belorussian Front. Ivan was appointed head of the radio station in the 4th air army. The main task was to maintain communication with all aircrafts of the air forces. Air battles were won by Soviet aircrafts often. Thus Belarus was liberated and the expulsion of the fascist troops from Poland began. New employees appeared in the staff of Ivan Serov's subordinates. Among them there was a girl Valya from the city of Kotlas. It ended with a wedding that was played in a small German city. Ivan met the end of the war 100 km away from Berlin. In September of 1945 Ivan was given a vacation, he came with his wife Valentina to the city of Kotlas, where he received an offer to get a job on the railway. He stayed in Kotlas and spent 40 years working for the railway. He worked as the head of power supply. Valentina devoted herself to pedagogy and worked as a head of kindergartens for many years. Ivan Ivanovich Serov died in 2014, he was 92 years old. He has three children, 5 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
