Stoilov Ivan Kuzmich (1882 –1973) was born in the village of Istobensk, Orichevsky district, Kirov region. He graduated from college and from 1922 worked in a dairy cooperative, then headed the Istobensky breeding ground. After the formation of the district in 1929, he worked as a zootechnician (livestock specialist) of the district livestock association, and since 1933, for six years, he was a manager of the “Leninskaya Iskra” collective farm. Then he worked again in the state breeding ground. 10 years before going on a well-deserved rest, he worked at the collective farm "Istobensky". Ivan Kuzmich led a large research and practical work on crossing cattle breeds and breeding new best types. As a result of crossing the Dutch black-and-white breed with local Russian, Ivan Kuzmich bred the Istoben cattle breed - the Istobenka. That work began before the war and lasted for 29 years. In 1943 "Istobenskaya breed" was the best, the leader of our country and gained fame not only in USSR, but also in other countries. The champions of the breed were the cow Fara with a milk yield of 8366 kilograms per year and a fat content of 4.98% and her son Ajax. This breed won prizes at the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy in Moscow 7 times. Ivan Kuzmich was awarded the Orders of the Red Banner of Labour and the “Badge of Honour”, medals “For Labour Valour”, “For Valiant Labour during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945”, medals of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition.
