But there was no time to grieve, the war was going on. He received his baptism of fire from Zhitomir as part of the 99th rifle division and was soon appointed commander of a mortar company. The division liberated the cities: Starokonstantinov (Ukraine), Ternopil, Lvov, crossed the Danube and went to Budapest. Further, his path lay through Romania and Hungary. On the island of Chepel Ilyin Pyotr Evstavfievich was admitted to the Communist Party. And again into battle. In Budapest, already in the rank of captain, he commanded a battalion and led the attack shouting "Hurray", "For the Motherland", "For Stalin." We went to the enemy. Further to Vienna, the liberation of Czechoslovakia. Here is the day of victory! But the war did not end for P.E. Ilyin, a new order: to the Far East, where there were battles with Japan. When the war ended Ilyin P.E. was sent to the headquarters of the East Siberian District and was assigned to serve in the military commissariat, to prepare young people for service in the army. They were given 22 years of life, of which 13 years as a military commissar of the city of Achinsk and the Achinsk region of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. In 1946 he married Anna Fedotovna Chebykina, who worked for the Leninsky Put’ newspaper and was also awarded medals for selfless labor.
