Grachev Viktor Vladimirovich (01/19/1924-10/26/2012) - veteran of the great Patriotic war, guard corporal, gunner of the company of machine gunners. He was born and lived all his life in Sadovoe village (formerly Golodaevka) Novospassky district of Ulyanovsk region. During the Great Patriotic war in August 1942, at the age of eighteen, he was drafted into the army. First, he was sent to Morshansk town, Penza region, to the machine-gun and mortar school for the course of a young fighter. When the exercises were held, he was sent to Voronezh region, where the 4th Shock army was being formed. In May 1943, my grandfather, as part of the 202nd rifle regiment of the 68th guards division, was sent to Kursk. In July 1943, additional army forces were needed on the Kursk Bulge, and their regiment was transferred there. After the defeat of the Germans on the Kursk Bulge, Red army drove German troops to the Dnieper. He received his first baptism in fire on August 25, 1943 in Mikhaylovka village, Poltava region. In September 1943, he was awarded the medal "for bravery" for exemplary performance of combat tasks on the front in the fight against the German invaders, and for the valor and courage shown in this case. Then he took part in the crossing of the Dnieper. On October 12, 1943. He was wounded in this difficult battle near Bolshaya Shchuchenka village, Kiev region, and he was treated in a hospital until January 1944. After that, he was sent to Tambov infantry school, where he was appointed as the head of the ammunition depot. In Tambov, my grandfather met the long-awaited Victory. He continued to serve in the army until October 1945. He returned to his native village and worked as a math teacher at Sadovskaya school in Novospassky district of Ulyanovsk region for 40 years. My Grandfather willingly told about historical events of wartime, remembered all the dates, where and when, in what military operations he participated, but did not like to talk about the experienced emotions and impressions, about his exploits and awards. And only once, on the last victory Day of His life, he said that those who say that war is not terrible do not know anything about war.
