He participated in Kursk offensive operation, where in the battles for the height of 228, he received the medal "for military merit". In October 1943, he took part in Nevel operation and was wounded on October 6. Exactly a year after the first injury-a fatal combination of circumstances-he was again injured, and this time seriously. A through shrapnel wound to the face with damage to the lower jaw-this was the diagnosis, and the doctors found it was necessary to transfer him to the evacuation hospital in Kazan on December 2, 1943.
