Katulevsky Vasily Iosifovich

Rank: Captain. Type of troops: Artillery. Subdivision: 121st Guards Rifle Gomel Order of Lenin Red Banner Order of Suvorov Division. My uncle, Katulevsky Vasily Iosifovich, having completed the urgent courses of officers, went to the front as a junior lieutenant in October 1941, and ended the war in Germany in 1945 with the rank of captain. His first award was the Order of the Red Banner, he received the rank of lieutenant in the position of commander of a rifle company of the 2nd Airborne Guards Rifle Regiment. On March 3, 1943, wounded in the head, he did not leave the battlefield and continued to command the company, as a result of which a bunker, 3 guns, 2 easel and 1 anti-aircraft machine gun were taken, and the village of Koshelki was liberated from the Nazis. The second, the Order of the Red Star, was awarded for the organization and clear leadership of the company in the offensive battle near the city of Oryol, July 15-16, 1943, in a short period of battle with heavily equipped enemy infantry, the company headed by him advanced 5 km deep into the front, capturing prisoners, destroyed a company of fascist infantry, captured 5 light and 2 heavy machine guns of the enemy. In this battle, a concussion and a serious wound was received. Uncle was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the Second Degree in June 1944. After the battalion commander was wounded, the uncle took over command. Thanks to his skillful leadership and the correct interaction of units, the farm of the Gorukhovsky district of the Lviv region was occupied. In this battle, over 60 enemy soldiers and officers were destroyed, 7 were taken prisoner. Then Uncle Vasya was already in the rank of captain, in the position of intelligence officer of the 342 Guards Rifle Regiment of the 121 Guards Gomel Red Banner Division. The Order of Alexander Nevsky was awarded in January 1945 after commanding the battalion that first crossed the Oder River, providing intelligence and expanding the bridgehead on the West Bank of the Oder River, capturing several settlements. After the war, my uncle graduated from a trade college and worked as a merchandiser in Shekaftar. He was greatly respected. From an uncle's family during the Great Patriotic War, his father (my grandfather), Katulevsky Iosif Gerasimovich, and his younger brother, Katulevsky Ivan Iosifovich, fought. Katulevsky Joseph Gerasimovich, born in 1899, went to the front in 1942, disappeared without a trace near Stalingrad. According to the stories of his fellow countryman, who returned home, his grandfather died from a direct hit by an anti-aircraft shell (the photo has not survived). Katulevsky Ivan Iosifovich, born in 1924, went to the front in 1942 and died on August 15, 1943 in Ukraine, Kharkov region, Bogodukhovsky district, village Utinka. (photo has not survived).
