Eliseev Mikhail Ivanovich
My grandfather was born on February 15, 1924 in the small village of Volkovo, then the Kursk region, Babrovo-Dvorsky district. On March 7, 1943, the Bobrovo-Dvorsk District Commissariat was called up to the front - to defend our vast country. On July 13, 1943, he took the oath. He had to fight far from his homeland - in the anti-aircraft artillery regiment of the Karelian Front as a squad leader with the rank of junior sergeant. The troops of the front, in which my grandfather fought, stopped the enemy, who was making attempts to seize the Arctic, and forced him to go on the defensive. Until June 1944, the troops of the front held the defense along the line: the Zapadnaya Litsa River, Lake Onega and the Svir River. On January 19, 1944, while crossing the Svir River, which is located between the Onega and Ladoga lakes, my grandfather and his fellow soldiers fell under the bombardment of enemy aircraft. In this battle, my grandfather from the 37mm anti-aircraft artillery cannon shot down an enemy plane, the pilot of which ejected and was subsequently taken prisoner. He turned out to be Finn. For this battle on June 12, 1944, Mikhail Ivanovich Eliseev received his first medal "For Courage". My grandfather took part in the hostilities for the defense of the Soviet Arctic against German and Finnish troops on the Kola Peninsula. In October 1944, Soviet troops launched an offensive towards the port of Petsamo. In pursuit of the retreating German forces, the 14th Army, in which my grandfather served, with the support of the fleet, drove the Germans out of Soviet territory, crossed the Finnish border and began to seize Petsamo. Then the Soviet troops crossed the Norwegian border and liberated the Norwegian city of Kirkenes. After that, hostilities in the Arctic ended, the Petsamo area was completely special for the Soviet troops. Mikhail Ivanovich Eliseev received the second medal on August 10, 1944 "For the Defense of the Soviet Arctic." During the war he was awarded the Medal for Military Merit. Grandfather met the Great Victory far from his native land - in Norway. May 9, 1945 Mikhail Ivanovich received the fourth medal "For the victory over Germany."
