At night, he was called to the division Headquarters and since then he has been separated from his family for 4 years. In June 1941, he held the position of Chief of the 2nd Staff Department of the 9th Rifle Division of the USSR NKVD troops for the protection of railway grounds and from the first minutes of Hitler's aggression against the USSR he became direct participant of the Great Patriotic War: in combat actions and battles at the North-Western and Western Fronts. In 1943, a daughter Svetlana was born (place of birth Moscow), in 1944, the second daughter, Alevtina was born.in Dzerzhinsk (Nizhny Novgorod region), In 1945, after reuniting with the first family, he did not abandon the daughters of the second marriage, helped them financially and periodically they visited him as guests. After the war, his wife wrote memoirs of her incarceration with children in concentration camps. Sergey Nikolaevich ended the war on the 1st Baltic front with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel as Commander of the 31st Frontier Konigsberg Order of Red Star regiment of the USSR NKVD troops. Victory Day on May 9 he met in the East Prussia, in the town of Tapiau (now is city of Gvardeysk), 42 km from Konigsbergk, where 31st Frontier Regiment was deployed. After the Victory, the regiment had taken part in the liquidation of gangs on the territory of the Konigsberg region and Lithuania. In 1954, with the rank of Colonel, Kovov Sergey Nikolaevich retired to the reserve. After the service, he worked as a Deputy of the Butovsky workers' settlement Council of the Leninskiy district of the Moscow region. He died on November 23, 1974.
