He finished the war in Berlin in 1945 as a company commander, senior lieutenant, in the First Ukrainian Front, the 81st Mountain Brigade. Awards: Order of the Patriotic War II degree, medal "For the capture of Berlin" In 1942, at the age of 19, Dmitry Mikhailovich Averin was drafted into the army in the Central Asian Military District, after which he was immediately sent to higher officer courses. He graduated from the officer training courses "excellently", becoming the commander of a mortar platoon with the rank of junior lieutenant. After completing the courses, the duration of which was about a year, he was sent to Iran, as part of the 53rd Army. Our military units, simultaneously with the British troops, within the framework of Operation "Consent", have been in Iran since August 1941 in order to ensure the military security of both countries in the face of the German threat. In 1944, when the Soviet Army was moving to Berlin with its liberation march, Lieutenant Dmitry Averin was sent to the Western Front, to the 52nd Guards Mechanized Division, commanded by General Kozin Nestor Dmitrievich. The 52nd Division at that time was directly involved in the Vistula-Oder and East Pomeranian operations. During the last operation, the division liberated about 90 settlements, including 8 cities. During the Berlin offensive, a division as part of the 3rd Shock Army was launched on the offensive on April 19, during which it overcame three defensive lines and on the morning of April 21, the first division from the Red Army entered Berlin. Continuing the offensive, the division liberated 120 blocks of the city from April 22 to May 2. As a mortar platoon commander, young lieutenant Dmitry Averin took part in the battles for the liberation of the cities of Leibniz and Breslau. The city of Breslau was destroyed during these battles. Here for the young soldier the war ended. On April 25, 1945, in the area of ​​Torgau on the Elbe, the legendary meeting of Soviet and American troops, known to descendants as the "Meeting on the Elbe", took place. After the declaration of the Great Victory, Dmitry Mikhailovich was sent from Berlin to the German city of Torgau. Until 1946, he was engaged in the repatriation of Soviet prisoners of war, that is, he returned to their homeland all Soviet people who were captured by the Nazis. He accompanied full trains all the way to the Polish border. Here he met and fell in love with his future wife, Vera. This was followed by a return to his small homeland, in the city of Petropavlovsk, Kazakh SSR, where he taught mathematics at school, and then was the director of school No. 3 in the city of Petropavlovsk, North Kazakhstan region. Died on April 21, 2015, at the 93rd year of life.
