Until May 25, 1942, he was a cadet, after which he spent the whole war as a corporal as commander of the 1st gun of the 2nd battery in the 58th Guards Artillery Sevastopol Regiment, 32nd Guards Rifle Taman Red Banner Order of Suvorov 2nd Class Division. From June 25, 1942 to October 9, 1943 he took part in the battles for the Caucasus, for which he was awarded the medal "For the Defense of the Caucasus". From September 9 to September 20, 1942 he took part in the defense of Tuapse.
